OREANDA-NEWS  The Russian State Institute has conducted a study on the status of the Russian language. According to the results, Russian is ranked seventh among the most widely spoken languages in the world. This was announced by Nikita Gusev, the Acting Rector of the Institute.

According to the "prevalence of world languages" parameter, the Russian language holds the seventh position. The parameter takes into account several indicators, including the number of speakers, the number of native speakers, and the number of those who use the language as a native and foreign language.

Gusev mentioned during a press conference that the study also considered the distribution of languages based on the number of countries where they are spoken.

"We also determined the language ranking based on the number of international organizations where this language is an official working language. According to its status in international organizations, Russian ranks fourth behind English, French, and Spanish," said the acting rector of the Pushkin Institute.

In terms of languages by the number of periodicals, Russian took seventh place. In the digital environment, it ranked sixth.

Overall, Russian's global competitiveness index placed it in the top five, with a fifth-place finish.
