Russia Celebrates National Unity Day
OREANDA-NEWS. Russia today, November 4, celebrates the Day of National Unity. It is planned to hold exhibitions, flash mobs, patriotic actions, concerts and sporting events throughout the country. Unfortunately, however, due to the pandemic, most events are held online, because due to coronavirus restrictions, the majority of mass celebrations have been canceled this year.
National Unity Day is a relatively new holiday and one of the youngest public holidays in Russia. It has been celebrated in modern history since 2005, but its history goes back to the beginning of the 17th century. On this day, Russians remember the victory of Minin and Pozharsky over foreign invaders. Officially in modern Russia, the holiday was approved and made November 4 a day off at the end of 2004. For the first time in Russia this holiday was celebrated on November 4, 2005. It symbolizes the unity of the people, thanks to which the great victory took place.
But, some cities will still hold separate festive events, although in an online format, for example, city festivals of creative teams "Fireworks of National Cultures", "Festivals of Folk Traditions". Besides, various online marathons, dance competitions, master classes in folk crafts and cooking of national cuisine will be held throughout the country. Some of the events are dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.
