OREANDA-NEWS. Russia became the largest cinema market in Europe in terms of the number of movie tickets sold in 2019.

This was concluded by the European Audiovisual Observatory (EAO). The organization reported that 219.4 million cinema tickets were sold in Russia. It shows an increase by 9.5 % in comparison with the previous year. So, Russia managed to surpass the former leader, France, where 213.4 million tickets were sold. Next in the list are Great Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The EAO noted that in general, people began to visit movie theaters more often. An exception touches upon several countries, including the United Kingdom, where the audience fell by 0.5 %. However, experts mentioned that in 2019 British spectators set the highest achievement of this indicator for the last 40 years.
