Obama Named Russian Film “Dylda” One of the Best in 2020
OREANDA-NEWS. Former US President Barack Obama has listed his favorite films and TV series this year on Twitter.
Ex-President said that one of his favorite films of the outgoing year was the Russian film "Dylda" directed by Kantemir Balagov, writes RIA Novosti.
In addition to "Dylda", this list includes such films as "Munk" and "Martin Eden", as well as the shows "Queen's Gambit" and "Better Call Saul".
So, the first in Obama's rating was the film "Ma Rainey: Mother of the Blues", the second place was taken by "Dylda", and the picture "Bakurau" closed the top three.
The film "Dylda" is dedicated to the story of two girls who returned from the front to post-war Leningrad in 1945. The premiere of the tape took place on June 20, 2019. At the Cannes Film Festival, the film won the prize of the International Federation of Film Press FIPRESCI, as well as the award for best directing in the framework of the program "Unusual View".
In November 2019, Balagov received the main prize at the XXV Geneva International Film Festival. "Dylda" won the nomination among feature films. In September of the same year, the Russian Oscar committee nominated the picture for an Oscar. The tape was included in the short list of applicants for the award, but was not included in the final list of nominees.
In December "Dylda" was included in the world list of the best films of 2020 by film critics of IndieWire. The picture took sixth place in it. Balagov also ranked sixth in the ranking of the best directors of the year. The tape was also noted by The New York Times magazine, including it in its film reports of the year.
