OREANDA-NEWS The famous painting by Claude Monet "Wheat Field" was put up for sale for a billion rubles. This was reported by the Nizhny Novgorod portal of Komsomolskaya Pravda.

The work, painted by the legendary artist in 1881, was put up for auction in Nizhny Novgorod with a starting price of 1,039,000,000 rubles. At the same time, no evidence of the authenticity of the painting is attached to the announcement on the auction site's website.

The dimensions of the picture in the frame are 66 by 82 centimeters, made on canvas with oil paints. The publication clarifies that "the painting was imported into our country in compliance with the laws of European countries and Russia."

Earlier it became known about plans to return Leonardo da Vinci's legendary Mona Lisa painting to the artist's homeland, Italy.
