OREANDA-NEWS. Kyrgyz jazz musician Vikram Ruzakhunov, who was detained in Kazakhstan on suspicion of involvement in terrorism, has been released, Sputnik Kyrgyzstan reports with reference to the State National Security Committee of Kyrgyzstan.
A source from vb.kg, as well as a TASS source in the law enforcement agencies of Kyrgyzstan specified that Ruzakhunov was taken to Bishkek.
The detention of the musician became known on January 9. Kazakhstani media, in particular the state-run Qazaqstan TV channel, published a video of the interrogation, in which the man claims he flew in from Kyrgyzstan to attend the rally. For this, he was promised 90,000 tenge - 15,200 rubles. The man said he was unemployed and agreed. On 2 January he arrived in Almaty, where he was taken to a flat with other citizens of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. After the start of the rally, the detainee said that he was frightened and wanted to go home, but he was detained by the military.
Qazaqstan later removed the video of Ruzakhunov on its YouTube channel, Telegram and Facebook, Sputnik Kyrgyzstan noted.
Following Ruzakhunov's detention, the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry launched an investigation. Kyrgyzstan has sent a note of protest to Kazakhstan following his arrest.
Kamchybek Tashiyev, chairman of Kyrgyzstan's State Committee on National Security, said the detained musician was not a terrorist and that information from Kazakhstan's state TV channels was incorrect. He went to the Kazakhstani embassy in Bishkek, where a rally in support of Ruzakhunov was taking place.
