OREANDA-NEWS. The winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, Duncan Lawrence, has contracted the coronavirus and therefore will not be able to perform live in the final of the current competition. This was announced by the organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest.
On May 18, Lawrence opened the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam as the winner of the previous contest. The next day, he tested positive for covid.
The disease passes in a mild form. In accordance with the rules, he will spend a week in isolation, but the organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest expressed the hope that in one format or another he will appear before the public in the final of the contest on May 22.
As noted on the Eurovision website, since the beginning of the contest in Rotterdam, the organizers have made more than 24 thousand tests for coronavirus among participants, volunteers, journalists and visitors of the contest at the Ahoy site. And only 16 of them (0.06%) gave a positive result.
The song contest in Rotterdam is the 65th in the history of Eurovision. Last year, the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Russia is represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 by singer Manizha. She performed in the first semi-final with the song "Russian Woman" and reached the final of the competition.
