OREANDA-NEWS The conductor of the Moscow New Opera theater, Jan Latham-König, announced in London about the creation of the first Russian-British orchestra in history. He was named after the composers Benjamin Britten and Dmitry Shostakovich, TASS reports it.

Latham-König and former Deputy Energy Minister of Great Britain Charles Hendy acted as co-founders of the orchestra. It consists of 86 musicians. It took more than a year to create an orchestra.

According to the conductor, the troupe will be a long-term legacy of the cross-year music of Russia and Great Britain, and its musicians will take on the role of “cultural ambassadors”. It is expected that in September this year the orchestra will give the first series of concerts in the cities of the two countries.

“I’m sure that this plan awaits a grand cultural and political success,” said the conductor.
