Belarusian Punk Musician Igor Banzer Sentenced to Prison
OREANDA-NEWS. A court in Grodno, Belarus, on Friday, March 19, sentenced a punk musician and civil activist Igor Banzer to one and a half years of imprisonment in an open-type institution. Banzer was found guilty of hooliganism, as, according to the investigation, he danced without panties in front of a police car. The term is counted from October 20 and Banzer was released in the courtroom on his own recognizance.
According to the prosecution, on the night of September 5, Banzer «deliberately expressing disrespect for the authorities, clearly disregarding general moral norms with special cynicism» showed his genitals to the police officers who were in the police car, as well as to unidentified persons. The victim — a police driver — said, that he had no claims against Banzer.
41-year-old Igor Banzer is the leader of the street punk band «Mister X». He is married and has three minor children. This year, during the protests, he served three administrative arrests for participating in rallies (a total of 18 days), and was also fined. On October 20, he was detained in a criminal case and since then has been in the pre-trial detention center.
