OREANDA-NEWS. The Austrian side delivered cultural values ​​stolen by the German Nazis to the Temryuk Historical and Archaeological Museum (Russia). This was reported by Russian Ambassador to Austria, Dmitry Lyubinsky.

Three amphoras and five antique gravestone bas-reliefs were stolen in 1943 from the destroyed Temryuk Museum; then they were kept in the storerooms of the Salzburg Museum. In March 2020, the parties signed an agreement on the return of cultural treasures. The exhibits were transported at the expense of the Austrian side.

The Russian Ambassador emphasized the special symbolic significance of this event in connection with the celebration in 2020 of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, the liberation of Europe from fascism and the end of the Second World War. “It is our duty to preserve for future generations the memory and lessons of these terrible pages of modern history. I am sure that the return to Russia, even bit by bit, of a huge array of stolen and seemingly irretrievably lost cultural values, contributes to the common cause,” Lyubinsky said.
