First Museum of Calligraphy in Russia Opened
OREANDA-NEWS. On 04 August 2008 was announced, that Sokolniki Entertainment and Recreation Park welcomed the first in Russia Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy. Its opening is confined to the International Exhibition of Calligraphy which will be opened on September 17 in St. Petersburg.
The exposition includes various exhibit items related to the art of lettering. The Among them are fine specimen of Slavonic and European lettering, Russian and foreign books on calligraphy, limited editions of rare manuscripts, writing utensils of the past and present, elegant Hebrew calligraphy. The permanent exposition will include over 80 well-designed calligraphic art works by the visual artists from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Germany, France, Israel, Syria, USA, Japan, China and masters’ apprentices.
According to the testimonials of the first visitors, warm atmosphere of the show inspires meditativeness. Every work has a profound esthetic value and carries in itself a positive energy of a letter. It is not by chance that the words of welcome were warm and friendly.
The floor was given to the President of the National Union of Calligraphers Petr Chobitko, and Director of Museum Aleksey Shaburov.
The opening ceremony was attended by the First Secretary of the Embassy of Israel and representative of the Israeli cultural centre Joseph Tavor. He presented the work of an illustrious Israeli calligrapher Avraham Borshevsky.
The event was given coverage by the most popular mass media. The framework of the opening ceremony included master classes from the most prominent calligraphers where everyone could see little masterpieces being born. Any museum would be proud to have each of these artworks in its collection.
