American Songwriter Mac Davis Is Gone
OREANDA-NEWS. In the United States, country music singer, songwriter and actor Mac Davis at the age of 78. The artist gained fame as a singer of his own compositions and author of hits recorded by Elvis Presley, Nancy Sinatra, Dolly Parton, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash and other stars.
Mac Davis’ death was reported to the newspaper Variety by his manager Jim Morey. Condolences to the family and friends of the musician were expressed by the Country Music Association (CMA), which has repeatedly honoured him with its awards.
Mac Davis was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. One of the most famous songs written by him is In the Ghetto, recorded in 1969 by Elvis Presley. In addition, Presley performed another Davis’ song, A Little Less Conversation. The song Memories was recorded by both Elvis Presley and Nancy Sinatra.
Mac Davis was a popular country singer, and was named Artist of the Year by the CMA in 1974. With the song Baby, Don’t Get Hooked on Me, he topped the American charts in 1972.
