Then Uma was living in Europe, far from her family, and got a new job — Thurman began her acting career at the age of 15. She wanted to keep the child, but did not know what to do. Then Uma called home. The parents discussed possible options for their daughter: "We've never talked about sex before. It was the first time, and it was terrible for all of us." The father warned Uma that it would be difficult for her to raise the child alone.

"I was just starting my career and could not provide a stable home even for myself. My family and I decided that termination of pregnancy is the only right way out. My heart was still broken, " the actress said. She had to have an abortion in Germany, and it was painful, but Uma believed that she could not complain.
