OREANDA-NEWS The speed of YouTube for Russians dropped to a record low in early autumn. PC users, on average, were forced to wait 10 times longer for videos to open, and on mobile devices the first frame began to open 2.5 times longer, Izvestia reports.

Anton Prokopenko, Director of YouTube Products, noted that the slowdown in the platform's traffic led to users watching videos in lower quality more often. According to him, the number of cases when people closed the video without waiting for the first frame increased fivefold from three to 15 percent.

Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group, in turn, expressed confidence that technical problems with the service will continue. "However, in the future, when technical problems are resolved, interest in YouTube may return," said Denis Kuskov, CEO of Telecom Daily. Earlier, Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, said there were no plans to forcibly block YouTube video hosting in Russia.
