OREANDA-NEWS. An investigation by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) of an incident involving the possible use of chemical weapons in the Syrian city of Duma on April 7, 2018, was carried out using unacceptable working methods aimed at tailoring the report to predetermined conclusions. This is stated in the document of the special independent commission, which had previously met with one of the members of the OPCW investigation team. The findings of the experts were published on Wednesday on the WikiLeaks portal.
“Based on a detailed informant presentation, including emails, text messages and closed preliminary reports, we unanimously express concern about the unacceptable methods of work used to investigate the incident”, the experts emphasized.
A special independent commission was created by Courage Foundation, founded in 2013 on the initiative of WikiLeaks. It included experts in the field of disarmament, international law, journalism, military operations, medicine and intelligence, including the Brazilian diplomat Jose Bustani, who was the first general director of the OPCW (1997-2002). The meeting with the informant was held on October 15 in Brussels.
