Twitter Imposed Sanctions against Russian News Agency RIA Novosti
OREANDA-NEWS. On September 28, the American social network Twitter imposed sanctions against the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, its account was removed from search results. This means that users who are not subscribed to the edition will no longer be able to find it.
The press service of Russiya Segodnya called such restrictions an act of censorship. “The social network does not react to our requests and does not explain its decisions,” it added.
Previously, Twitter imposed similar sanctions on RT and Sputnik profiles, RIA Novosti notes. In early August, Twitter officials reported that they would begin labeling the pages of government officials and state-controlled media. The label, in particular, appeared on the account of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the country’s government and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev. In addition, the pages of RIA Novosti, TASS, RT, Vesti and a number of other media were marked.
After that, the Russian Foreign Ministry asked human rights organizations and international structures to respond to Twitter’s decision on labeling.
