OREANDA-NEWS. Turkey plans to organize negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on the Minsk agreements, which should take place in Istanbul. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.
“Negotiations on the Minsk agreements will be held in Istanbul. The same players will take part in them as before: Russia, Ukraine, representatives from Donbass and the OSCE. The date of the talks has not yet been determined. Meetings within the framework of the negotiation process will be frequent and regular,” the source said.
He stressed that Turkey has taken a clear position in the Ukrainian crisis from the very beginning. According to the source, it lies in the need for steps that would be aimed at reducing tension and preventing armed conflict, as well as further maintaining and strengthening the dialogue.
The publication notes that the date of the talks in Istanbul has not yet been determined.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan invited Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky to Turkey so that politicians could “sort out their problems” there. In the next few weeks, the Turkish leader will also visit Ukraine himself for a meeting with Zelensky. This is not the first time Turkey has offered to help resolve the Ukrainian crisis, but Moscow is cool about it. According to experts, Erdogan is trying to raise his international image and wants to cooperate with both sides of the conflict at once.
