In the column, Rus, who writes about technology, told what NFT tokens are and how they began to earn millions of dollars. «Watching these riches change hands, I thought: why are only celebrities, athletes and artists having fun? Why can't a journalist join the NFT party?», wrote Rus.

He turned a screenshot of this column into an NFT token and put it up for auction on the digital asset sales service Foundation. Rus promised to send all the funds from the sale to The Neediest Cases Fund — a charitable foundation of The New York Times, that helps various non-profit organizations.

Rus put the column up for sale on March 24 at the starting price of 0.5 ether (at the time of writing the news, it is $812). The auction lasted a day. The column was purchased for 350 ethers (about 568 thousand dollars at the current exchange rate). The buyer was a Foundation user under the nickname «3Fmusi». Judging by the links in the profile, this is an account of a music studio from Dubai.
