OREANDA-NEWS The first domestic base station of the fifth generation of communications (5G) was developed by the Skoltech Institute with the support of the NTI Foundation. It is planned that by the end of 2023, the volume of domestic development will be 100 units, and several friendly countries have already shown interest in the development. This was reported to TASS by the press service of the foundation. "A three-year project to create the first production model of a domestic fifth-generation communications base station (5G) has been successfully completed. The work was carried out by Skoltech with the support of the NTI Foundation within the framework of the state program "Digital Economy" supervised by the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation," the press service said.
According to the representative of the foundation, a leading research center was formed to create the project, within the framework of which a hardware and software complex for 5G networks that meets modern industry requirements was created for 39 months. According to the data provided, the total development budget amounted to 342 million rubles, of which 300 million rubles were received in the form of a state grant. The solution itself includes software, as well as samples of modules that will be produced in Russia by the industrial partner of the project at the request of operators and other customers. "The first batch of equipment intended for completing the pilot network is already ready. The volume of production of base stations will reach 100 units by the end of 2023," the press service of the fund noted.
The base station itself is designed in full compliance with the international standards 3GPP and OpenRAN (standards are necessary for the operation of equipment - approx. TASS), it supports the key services of the fifth generation communication technology. According to the technical characteristics, according to the developers, the Skoltech base station is comparable to modern samples of foreign equipment, and the peak speed of the mobile Internet reached 1.4 gigabits per second. "The Skoltech solution supports the 4.4-4.99 GHz band, and thanks to the modular design of the base station and the support of modern functionality, the development has export potential. Several friendly countries have already shown interest in the project," the press service reported.
