Sony and Nintendo Stopped Selling Video Game Consoles in Russia
OREANDA-NEWS Sony has suspended the sale of its PlayStation consoles, software and hardware in Russia. This was reported by CNBC. "Sony Interactive Entertainment joins the world community in calling for peace in Ukraine," the company reported. Following its competitor, Nintendo suspended the supply of consoles and software in the Russian Federation.
Sony reported that there will be no access to the PlayStation Store in Russia and the release of the new racing game Gran Turismo 7 will not take place. According to the TV channel, the decision turned out to be difficult for Sony from a financial point of view — among console manufacturers in Russia, the company has the largest market share.
The Japanese manufacturer also said that he donated $2 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the international non-governmental organization Save the Children. The money will be used to support victims of the crisis in Ukraine.
Nintendo explained the decision with a violation of supply chains and problems with payment due to sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation after the start of the military operation in Ukraine. Earlier, Nintendo had already temporarily closed its online store in Russia, as the payment operator stopped accepting Russian rubles.
