Russian Media Tsargrad Received $11,9 Million in Penalties from Google in Its Lawsuit
OREANDA-NEWS Google has paid a penalty to the Tsargrad TV channel for non-compliance with a court decision to restore an account on the YouTube video hosting in the amount of 1 billion rubles (about $11,9 million). This was reported on Friday, April 1, by the press service of the TV channel.
«Tsargrad received from Google the first billion rubles of a penalty for non-compliance with the court's decision to restore the channel's account on YouTube. Tsargrad will use the billion seized today to support Russia's special military operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine», the media said in a statement.
Earlier, the Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal confirmed the conclusions of the Arbitration Court of Moscow on the illegality of the actions of Google Group companies to disable the account and YouTube channel of the Tsargrad. As the representatives of media noted, the judicial acts in the case were the first when Russian arbitration courts recognized their exclusive competence in disputes involving a person under US sanctions, despite the reservations in Google user agreements and monetization agreements on the consideration of the case in American and English courts.
The case was considered for about 15 months. On July 28, 2020, Google, which owns the YouTube video hosting, blocked theTV-channel without warning, thereby violating its own user rules. Later, Google explained the incident by the fact that the founder of the media – Russian entrepreneur and politician Konstantin Malofeev – is under US sanctions.
