Russian Media and Musicians Staged a Rally Against the Law on «Foreign Agents»
OREANDA-NEWS. The abolition of the law on «foreign agents» in Russia was demanded by representatives of «Novaya Gazeta», the Dozhd TV channel, the Echo of Moscow radio station, the online media OVD-Info, as well as musicians Andrei Makarevich, Boris Grebenshchikov, Yuri Shevchuk, TV presenter Vladimir Pozner, journalist Leonid Parfenov and a number of other well-known organizations and people who took part in the so-called stream marathon dedicated to this topic on Tuesday, October 12.
The action, timed to coincide with the first day of the new convocation of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, was called «Agents of People» and was broadcast in real time on the Internet on the YouTube channel «Dozhd».
According to the organizers of the event, their goal was to draw attention to the petition for the abolition of laws on «foreign agents» in the Russian Federation and «draw the attention of the authorities to the demands of society».
«We know that anyone can be declared a «foreign agent» today. As well as dozens of people and hundreds of media and organizations. This law threatens everyone and must be repealed», reads a message about the action on the website of the Dozhd TV channel, also recognized by the Russian authorities as a «foreign agent».
Meanwhile, on the same day, October 12, it became known that the first administrative case was initiated in Russia against a citizen recognized by the media as a «foreign agent». He became the head of the public organization «Yakutia — Our Opinion» Stepan Petrov, who was included in the register of the Ministry of Justice in August 2021. Now he faces a fine of 10 thousand rubles (about $139), the Telegram channel «Apology of Protest» reports.
Until now, according to this article of the Administrative Code in Russia, only the media and their leaders have been fined.
