Russian Bloggers Demanded $1 Billion from Meta Because of Instagram Blocking
OREANDA-NEWS The Council of Bloggers at the Federation Council has drawn up a letter of complaint to Meta (activity is prohibited in Russia) with a demand to pay compensation of $1 billion in favor of the victims of the blocking of users and entrepreneurs of the Instagram social network (activity is prohibited in Russia).
This was announced at a round table in the Public Chamber by the founder of the Council, Valeria Rytvina. The letter also contains a demand for Meta to publicly apologize to the citizens of Russia. «The compensation paid will be aimed at supporting individuals and legal entities who have suffered losses as a result of illegal actions of Meta Platforms Inc.», the appeal says.
Rytvina noted that on the day Instagram was blocked, the council conducted a survey among 60 thousand users of this social network. It turned out that 70% of respondents had income associated with Instagram, and for half of them it was the main source of earnings. The complaint letter will be sent to Meta by the end of the day and in the absence of a response, a lawsuit may be filed in court. According to the authors of the claim, single mothers, disabled people and other vulnerable categories of the population who cannot promote their blog on the new site work on Instagram.
