OREANDA-NEWS Roskomnadzor announced the beginning of the inspection of the Internet resources of the British broadcasting Corporation BBC and BBC World News channel for compliance with Russian legislation.

On December 20, the British media regulator Ofcom reported that the principle of impartiality was not observed in seven issues of programs shown on RT in the spring of 2018. It's about three crosstalk shows and two Sputnik shows, shown from March 17 to April 26, 2018. Among other things, they talked about the incident in Salisbury, the accusations of the Syrian government in the use of chemical weapons against its citizens, the US foreign policy and the situation in Ukraine. For violation of the rules of broadcasting RT TV channel faces a fine of £250 thousand (about $320 thousand) or 5% of income, or revocation of a broadcasting license.

The press service of RT reported that the channel always seeks to comply with the rules of broadcasting, and said the disappointment that the conclusions Ofcom were made "on the basis of investigations, most of which were carried out on the initiative of the regulator, not the audience."

Roskomnadzor said that this measure was taken after the statement of the British media regulator Ofcom on violation of RT broadcasting rules. 

Press Secretary of the President - Dmitry Peskov - said that the inspection of Roskomnadzor is a response to the actions of the media regulator Ofcom in relation to RT. And also noted that "many for a long time accumulated a lot of questions to the BBC" in terms of tendentious coverage of events, including in Russia and Syria.

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova wrote on her Facebook page that the Russian side has repeatedly warned the British about a possible mirror answer.

“I am sincerely sorry for the BBC correspondents, many of whom are true professionals and conscientiously perform their duties. But the gross interference of the British government in the activities of the Russian media” -said Zakharova

The press service of the Corporation reported that it does not violate the legislation of Russia. "In Russia, as in all other countries of the world, the BBC provides the audience with independent information in compliance with all the rules and norms of local legislation," the BBC noted.
