Microsoft Has Assessed Risks for Russians on the Internet
OREANDA-NEWS Russians more often than residents of other countries face insults on the Internet, according to Microsoft's annual research on the culture of communication and personal safety on the Internet in 2018 and dedicated to the world day of safe Internet.
On the basis of the Microsoft study, the ranking of countries on the digital culture index (DCI) was compiled: in this ranking, Russia took 19th place out of 22.
At the end of last year 74% of Russians faced with risks in the Network, while the global average is 68%.
71% of Russian citizens were insulted on the Internet (the global figure is 51%), and 40% of Russians said that they were faced with purposeful compromising. In this case, the victims publish fake information were 18% of Russians.
In addition, 65% of Russian citizens last year faced risks of a sexual nature, 45% received unwanted content of this kind, and 31% — inappropriate romantic proposals and requests to send intimate photos.
"In Russia, the risk of suffering from strangers is almost twice as high as in the world (60 against 36%). More than the rest of the Russians are also at risk of becoming a victim of people with whom they are familiar only online (33 against the world figure of 26%)," the study said.
However, Russian Internet users, faced with risks, less vulnerable to serious emotional distress (46% vs. 55% globally). "The results of the study also illustrate the low percentage of positive reactions to the actions of other users in the network. For example, only 27% of respondents take a pause to think about the answer to the interlocutor with whom they disagree," the report said.
