OREANDA-NEWS. Russia has managed to destroy the "dream" of Europe. This opinion was expressed in an article for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) by the head of the Vienna office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation Reinhard Krumm.

He explained that Western countries expected Moscow to face difficulties, after which it would back down and turn its gaze again in their direction. However, the author states, hopes have diverged from reality.

The internal development of Russia, as well as the development of its foreign policy, "causing such an emotional rejection in the EU and the US" amazed East and West. This situation led to paralysis of thinking, as a result, now in the West, no one knows what to do next, writes RIA Novosti.

At the same time, Krumm is convinced that only negotiations are the most appropriate method of interaction between the authorities of the countries.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the US authorities cannot abandon attempts to pressure Russia under sanctions, despite their senselessness and futility. "The inertia of this policy surpasses any other segment of the American foreign policy course," the diplomat said. As Ryabkov recalled, 95 packages of sanctions have already been introduced against the Russian Federation. In his opinion, Washington will continue to look for pretexts for introducing restrictive measures in the future. And this despite the fact that "the senselessness of this policy is becoming more and more obvious even for those who formulate recommendations" as to what course the United States should adhere to with regard to Russia.
