In the now popular photo, Sanders sits in a warm twist, face shield and mittens. This snapshot quickly spread on social media under the #berniesmittens tag. The temperature at that moment was +6 degrees. Users actively used photos to create memes and photojacks. 

On the Internet, in particular on Twitter, a lot of funny tweets, memes and parodies of the senator in mittens quickly began to spread in large numbers.

The mittens were made by Vermont teacher Jenna Ellis, who gave them to Sanders several years ago, media reported. As Ellis herself said on Twitter, she made them from old sweaters.

Sanders himself also responded to questions about mittens. "In Vermont, we dress warmly, we know a thing or two about the cold. We don't care about fashion, we care about warmth," Senator CBS News said.

On Wednesday, the inauguration ceremony took place, during which Joe Biden took the oath and took office as President of the United States. Kamala Harris took the post of US Vice President. She became the first woman and the first colored person in a post that is considered the second most important in American politics.
