Germany Assessed the Prospects for Cooperation with Russia

OREANDA-NEWS. Germany wants to trade and cooperate with Russia, but the security issues of partners in Eastern Europe are more important, said the leader of the Free Democratic Party of Germany, Christian Lindner, who may head the Ministry of Finance.
"We are watching with concern the actions of Russia, including on the border with Ukraine. Everyone should know that we want cooperation and trade with Russia, but in case of doubt, the security interests of our partners and friends in Eastern Europe and respect for international law are more important for us." Lindner said in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
Speaking about the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, the politician noted that Germany will need gas for a long time, but the pipeline should not turn into a "geopolitical object."
Kiev and Western states have recently expressed concern about the alleged intensification of "aggressive actions" by Russia near the borders of Ukraine. The Russian Federation denied all accusations, stating that it is moving troops within its territory and at its own discretion, this does not threaten anyone and should not bother anyone.
Moscow has repeatedly expressed concern about the buildup of NATO forces in Europe. The Kremlin stressed that Russia poses no threat to anyone, but will not disregard actions that are potentially dangerous to its interests.
Regarding the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which is actively opposed by the United States and Ukraine, the Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that it is commercial, beneficial to Europe, and urged to stop mentioning it in the context of any politicization.
