The publishing of News of the World was ceased in 2011 after a major scandal over the illegal tapping of the phones of politicians, celebrities and members of the royal family, bribing police officers for getting information. Among the injured persons were Angelina Jolie, Paul McCartney, Elton John and many others. Ex-prime minister's wife Tony Blair sued News Group Newspapers, suspecting that her phone was tapped. Andy Coulson, the editor-in-chief of News of the World, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for illegal tapping phones of the members of the royal family.
Nowadays News Group Newspapers is releasing another popular British tabloid – The Sun.
