Fake Mobile Apps from Google Play Continue to Steal Cryptocurrencies
OREANDA-NEWS Experts on the security of mobile application ecosystems have found traces of Trojan penetration into Google Play. Viruses spread through crypto wallets, investment applications, photo editors and social assistance tools.
One of these applications has already been installed 500 thousand times and at the moment it remains available for download. Fraudsters use malware to obtain user data, after which they steal funds or confidential information, for example, KYC data.
Most malicious investment applications offer victims to deposit money into their trading account, and then steal the funds. Others — unknowingly subscribe users to unreasonably expensive subscriptions.
Victims download the modification on dubious sites by clicking on suspicious links in social networks and forums, after which they lose control over personal messages — malicious links are sent from their accounts. Recall that last year cybercriminals with the help of virus ransomware programs earned $400 million.
