OREANDA-NEWS. The Embassy of Kazakhstan in the United Arab Emirates did not confirm media reports that the former president of the republic, Nursultan Nazarbayev, is in the kingdom. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
"According to the latest report, voiced by his press secretary, Nazarbayev is in Kazakhstan," the representative of the diplomatic mission said.
Earlier, the media reported that two private planes allegedly belonging to the Nazarbayev family landed at the Manas International Airport in Kyrgyzstan. One of them arrived from Macedonia, the second from the United Arab Emirates. After some time, both liners allegedly left Bishkek.
It was also reported that Nazarbayev visited his native village of Shamalgan near Alma-Ata from January 2 to 3 this year, on the eve of mass protests in the country. However, there is no official confirmation of this information.
Media speculated last week that Nazarbayev may have left Kazakhstan amid unrest there, as he has not issued a single statement on the situation in the country. On January 12, the republic's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Serzhan Abdykarimov, announced that the ex-president was in Nur-Sultan.
