OREANDA-NEWS. The popularity rating of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has fallen to the lowest level since he took office as head of the German government. It is reported by TASS with reference to ARD.
The survey of the country's population is organized by the research institute Infratest dimap.
According to the survey, only 39% of the country's inhabitants were satisfied with Scholz's policy.
1,314 people took part in the poll, arranged from 25 to 27 April.
The actions of the federal chancellor seem prudent to most of the respondents (64% of respondents), but unconvincing.
In turn, 37% admit that Scholz will be able to successfully lead Germany through the crisis period. Scholz took over as Chancellor last December, succeeding Angela Merkel.
Earlier, Scholz said that Germany would continue its policy of military support for Ukraine.
“We will follow this course and we have received a mandate for this from the Bundestag,” he said.
Earlier, the German side announced a decision to transfer heavy weapons to Ukraine during a meeting of NATO defense ministers at the Ramstein military base on April 26. The meeting was also attended by representatives of Japan and Israel.
Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin, who delivered the opening speech, described the meeting as "historic" and constructive. He also stressed that from now on, representatives of the countries participating in the meeting will work as part of a contact group in order to coordinate their actions during exercises and other events.
The matter will not be limited to deliveries of heavy weapons. German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht assured her colleagues that Germany is committed to teaching Ukrainian military personnel how to handle Western equipment. In addition, Berlin agreed to compensate for the shortage of weapons for those European countries that will send Soviet-style military equipment to Ukraine from their fleet.
