Tribune Broadcasting today announced the appointment of James T. Aitken as Vice President & General Manager
OREANDA-NEWS. Tribune Broadcasting today announced the appointment of James T. Aitken as Vice President & General Manager of WXIN/FOX59 and WTTV/CBS4 in Indianapolis. Aitken will oversee all aspects of this duopoly and WTTV.2, including strategic planning and day-to-day operations. Aitken will report to Kathy Clements, Chief Operating Officer of Tribune Broadcasting. He succeeds Paul Rennie who was named President and General Manager of Tribune Broadcasting's WGN-TV in Chicago. Aitken was previously Vice President & General Manager of KDAF, Tribune's CW affiliate in Dallas/Fort Worth.
Under Aitken's guidance, KDAF expanded evening newscasts, launched the station's "Express Yourself " brand, and grew social media presence. Aitken was also responsible for the oversight of Tribune Broadcasting's Eye Opener morning news and entertainment program, syndicated in 5 markets.
"It's always nice when you have an internal candidate who is suited for a move within the company. Jamie's experience in running duopolies and his broad market experience gives him the skills required to lead a large operation with varying levels of complexity," said Clements.
Prior to his post at Tribune's KDAF, Aitken was President/General Manager of KREM/KSKN the CBS/CW duopoly in Spokane, WA. Previously Aitken was Vice President/General Manager at KASW and Station Manager at KTVK in Phoenix, AZ, President/General Manager at Texas Cable News in Dallas, TX and Director of Program Development for WFAA in Dallas, TX. He began his media career in Indiana as a Pulliam Fellow at the Indianapolis News.
"Fox59 and CBS4 reflect Tribune's tremendous commitment to provide outstanding local news and programming to the Indianapolis community," said Aitken. "This is a dynamic and growing market, and I'm excited to join the talented Indy team."
Aitken has served on several community and industry boards including the Texas Association of Broadcasters, Washington State Association of Broadcasters, the Cronkite School of Telecommunications/Mass Communications Endowment, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the United Way.
He holds a BA of Communications with honors from Texas A&M University.
