SAP TechEd 2016 Has Answers
OREANDA-NEWS. I recently blogged about how consumer-related Internet of Things (IoT) products get all the buzz, while the real change is actually happening at the industrial level for profound business transformation.
So I wasn’t surprised to learn that IoT is among the Hot Topics headlining the agenda at SAP TechEd 2016 in Las Vegas September 19-23. To find out more, I talked with Shawn Reynolds, VP IoT Marketing at SAP, who explained why it’s time for IoT to advance from physically connecting billions of things to delivering business value.
“Collecting raw data is just the beginning of the IoT challenge,” said Reynolds. “Now developers have to move from things to value and outcomes. To do that, you need to add operational context followed by business context. At Tech Ed this year, we’ll explore the full range of technical challenges, including using IoT to ultimately impact a business process that drives results and revenue. Attendees will learn everything from running a pilot to connecting your enterprise to entire IoT business networks for asset, logistics, or vehicle networks.”
According to Reynolds, there’s no doubt among developers that IoT is among the biggest change agents to reshape technology innovation across industries since the internet. What technologists need now are specific next steps to begin exploring the possibilities.
Here’s a tiny sampling of the numerous sessions developers can attend at SAP TechEd that will cover everything from large industrial networks, to sensors connected with cellphone-like SIM chips.
- Using SAP Plant Connectivity to Connect to Industry 4.0-Capable Devices: Configure and use SAP Plant Connectivity and the SAP HANA Cloud Platform to send machinery sensor data to backend systems like SAP HANA Cloud Platform, IoT services, or SAP MII.
- Applying Machine Learning to Real-Time Streaming Analytics: The predictive analysis library delivered with SAP HANA offers machine-learning algorithms for real-time processing in SAP HANA smart data streaming. Learn how the Hoeffding decision tree algorithm can be used to predict future events. Use the DenStream clustering algorithm to dynamically learn the normal state of a system
- IoT Solution Architecture and Best Practices from SAP: Learn how to ingest and store large amount of IoT times series data needed for data science; how to create business insight and trigger actions; how to ensure end-to-end security from sensors to the cloud; and how to best integrate business with machine data.
- Recommended Practices for Security in Industrial IoT Scenarios: Clear, practical recommendations and examples of how to build security into the design of your IoT landscape, and what you can do to protect your device infrastructure from attackers.
