OREANDA-NEWS. The latest Russian scramjet powered maneuvering anti-ship hypersonic cruise missile Zircon was launched in a test mode from a ship for the first time.

This was reported by TASS news agency, citing two sources in the defense agencies of the Northwestern Federal District. According to a journalists’ interlocutor, in January the rocket was launched from the frigate Admiral Gorshkov in the Barents Sea on a ground target at a military training ground in the Northern Urals. Another source confirmed this information, noting that the flight range of Zircon exceeded 500 kilometers.

The Zircon missile will have a speed of 9 Machs (nine times higher than the speed of sound). Its flight range will be more than 1 thousand kilometers.
