OREANDA-NEWS US President-elect Donald Trump has not yet taken office, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova recalled, commenting on the politician's statements about Greenland and Canada. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
"Let's treat it this way: when he becomes president, when he assumes his powers, and speaks on behalf of the state and the people of the United States in an official capacity, then it is probably necessary and may be evaluated and analyzed in some way," she said in an interview with Sputnik radio..
On Tuesday, January 7, Trump said that Greenland should become part of the United States, pointing out its strategic importance for national security and the protection of the "free world," including from China and Russia.
Prior to that, he proposed that Canada join the United States as the 51st state. Trump believes that uniting the two countries will help eliminate trade tariffs, reduce taxes and guarantee Canada "complete security from threats from Russian and Chinese ships that constantly surround them."
