WHO Considers that Bubonic Plague in China and Mongolia Does Not Pose an Increased Threat
OREANDA-NEWS. The situation with bubonic plague in China and Mongolia does not pose an increased level of danger. This was declared by spokesperson of the World Health Organization (WHO), Margaret Harris.
“At the moment we are not… considering it high-risk but we are watching it, monitoring it carefully,” she said during a briefing in Geneva. Harris added that the WHO was working closely with the Chinese and Mongolian authorities on this issue. According to her, it is known that current plague infections are treatable well, and outbreaks are “well managed.” The bubonic plague has always existed and remains with humanity for centuries, Harris resumed.
On July 6, the media reported of one more case of bubonic plague infection in the western part of Mongolia. Before that, two cases were registered in western Mongolia and one in the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region in northern China.
