Virologist Netesov Urged to Remain Silent in Subway During the Pandemic
OREANDA-NEWS During a pandemic, it is worth keeping silent in the subway, as in many other public places. Sergey Netesov, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Virology at Novosibirsk State University, urged Russians to do this, his words are quoted by the "Gazeta.Ru".
The specialist explained that during the conversation, aerosol particles that may contain coronavirus are released. With normal breathing, the virologist noted, the risk of spread is reduced.
"During a conversation, the vocal cords vibrate, producing an aerosol from sputum and saliva. And when you breathe, you still have a uniform flow, not turbulent," he explained.
Netesov noted that it is even more dangerous to be near a singing person.
Earlier, the scientific director of the Mechnikov Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vitaly Zverev said that the coronavirus pandemic in Russia will end when 80 percent of the population is ill. According to him, after fulfilling this condition, there will be no rise in morbidity. At the same time, the virus will not disappear anywhere and will remain in the form of autumn-spring outbreaks, he concluded.
