US Ruled out Sending Ground Troops to Syria
OREANDA-NEWS. The United States does not plan to send ground troops to Syria. This was announced by Special Representative for Syria Engagement and the Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, James Jeffrey. During a briefing in Brussels, Jeffrey said that he could exclude this scenario. According to him, Washington is studying what can be done in regard to an air defense, but deploying the US ground forces in the Arab Republic is an exceptional measure which is unlikely to be taken.
On March 5, negotiations between the leaders of Russia and Turkey took place in Moscow in connection with the aggravation of the situation in the Syrian governorate of Idlib. A joint document was adopted. The parties announced the introduction of a ceasefire regime from midnight on March 6. They also agreed to jointly patrol the motorway M4, which is currently under the control of militants.
