OREANDA-NEWS. The consular district of the US Embassy in Moscow will be extended to the entire territory of Russia from April 1, as the US Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan noted.

Earlier, he said that the work of the US Consulate General situated in Yekaterinburg would continue, but from April 1, no visas would be issued there. From now on, all Russians will be provided services only at the Moscow embassy.

As stated in the statement of the diplomat, posted on the official website of the American diplomatic mission, this decision was made after consultations with the State Department "based on the results of an audit of the security of the US diplomatic mission and the working conditions of the staff in Russia." In turn, in an official statement by Consul General Amy Storrow, this working regime is explained by "significant restrictions" in the number of Russian visas for American diplomatic workers.

The ambassador's statement on the official website of the American diplomatic mission says: "Starting from April 1, the consular district of the US Embassy in Moscow will be expanded to cover the entire territory of Russia. The US Embassy in Moscow will provide services to US citizens in the Russian Federation. The Embassy will also provide visa services so efficiently and as quickly as possible given the limited staffing."

“We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of US citizens and to facilitate legal travel for Russian citizens to the United States,” Sullivan said.
