US Administration Considers Benefits Paid because of Pandemic to Be Excessive
OREANDA-NEWS. In the US, the amount of payments to citizens to overcome the consequences of the spread of the new coronavirus will be changed. This was announced by the Chief of Staff of the White House, Mark Meadows.
According to opinion of representatives of the US administration and senators from the Republican Party, the measures to stimulate the country’s economy during the coronavirus pandemic, taken in March 2020, included too large payments to citizens. In this regard, other sums will be paid according to the updated package of measures.
Meadows said that initially self-isolation payments to citizens were larger than their earnings after returning to work. Therefore, the American authorities do not intend to extend these measures. Americans will no longer receive a rise of 600 dollars as a part of weekly paid unemployment benefits. Under the new rules, citizens will be given about 70 % of the money they earned before being deprived of their jobs due to the consequences of the pandemic.
