OREANDA-NEWS. The press release of the Sixth Fleet of the US Navy claims that Russian fighter Su-35 intercepted the multimission maritime aircraft P-8A Poseidon over the Mediterranean Sea, having conducted an “unsafe” approaching.

According to the US military, the incident occurred on April 15. It is reported that Su-35 approached P-8A at a distance of less than 8 meters, which is why the crew of the US Navy then complained of turbulence. The interception lasted about 42 minutes. The Russian fighter inverted maneuvered at high speed in front of the American aircraft, the report says.

“While the Russian aircraft was operating in international airspace, this interaction was irresponsible,” the statement said,” the Sixth Fleet representatives wrote. At the same time, they assured that P-8A Poseidon did not provoke Su-35.

The Russian Defence Ministry has not yet commented on this statement.
