OREANDA-NEWS Unemployment in Russia in August remained at a historic low of 2.4% for the third month in a row, according to Rosstat data.

"In August 2024, 1.8 million people aged 15 and over were classified as unemployed (according to the methodology of the International Labour Organization). The unemployment rate of the population aged 15 years and older in August 2024 was 2.4% (excluding the seasonal factor)," the Rosstat report says.

The historical minimum of 2.4% was recorded in June this year, and unemployment remained at the same level in July.

At the same time, if in July the total number of unemployed in the country was 1.865 million people, then in August it fell to 1.841 million people.

According to Rosstat, with reference to Rostrud data, by the end of August, 0.4 million unemployed citizens were registered with the employment service, including 0.3 million people receiving unemployment benefits.

Rosstat, when studying employment and unemployment, uses the methodology of the International Labour Organization, according to which the unemployed are those who at the time of the study simultaneously needed a job, were looking for it and were ready to start it.

The number of workers in Russia aged 15 years and older, according to Rosstat, in August 2024 amounted to 76.4 million people.
