OREANDA-NEWS. The UN Security Council called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to immediately stop hostilities and return to negotiations. This was stated by the Chairman of the Security Council, Abdu Abarri.

“Security Council members voiced support for the call by the Secretary General on the sides to immediately stop fighting, de-escalate tensions and return to meaningful negotiations without delay,” the politician said. Abarri also noted that the participants in the closed consultations expressed concern over the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh and strongly condemned the use of force.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on to stop fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh area. According to his official representative, Guterres intends to hold talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in connection with the armed conflict.
