OREANDA-NEWS Russian Helicopters has manufactured two new Mi-8MTV-1s for operation in the Magadan region, they have been painted in a special livery imitating the natural color of killer whales, the cars will soon be heading from Kazan to Kolyma, the Rostec press service reported.
"Russian Helicopters Holding Company of Rostec State Corporation has manufactured two new Mi-8MTV-1 aircraft of Kolyma Aviation. The equipment received a spectacular livery that repeats the natural color of killer whales. The vehicles were built by the Kazan Helicopter Plant under a contract with the State Transport Leasing Company (STLC)," the message says.
It is noted that killer whales, which can often be seen in the coastal waters of the region, have become one of the informal symbols of Magadan. Earlier, Kolyma Aviation had already received two Mi-38 helicopters in the same colors.
"Today, in addition to reliability and performance, customers often pay attention to the appearance of the equipment. We see that solutions such as industrial design and spectacular liveries are becoming more and more popular – this is a global trend. It is reflected in new products that we immediately design with fashion in mind, as well as in technology that is already well known to operators. One example is the new Mi–8MTV-1 in the form of killer whales for the Magadan region," Rostec said.
The press service clarified that reliable, proven Mi-8MTV-1, which can operate in extreme weather conditions, will soon leave Kazan for Magadan on their own. They will cover 6.5 thousand kilometers and fly over 11 cities of Russia. The equipment will have to carry out transport and cargo flights, medical evacuation, participate in fire fighting, forest protection, environmental monitoring and solve other tasks.
"We will make a flight by two crews with appropriate stops for refueling. I would like to note that the Mi-8 series helicopters are our proven and reliable assistants – they are stored without hangar and are easy to operate and maintain. There are plans to equip new vehicles with an external suspension and a winch device SLG–300 to perform evacuation tasks from ships," the press service quotes Dmitry Sanakoev, General Director of Kolyma Aviation.
The helicopters are capable of carrying additional external fuel tanks with a capacity of 915 liters each to increase the maximum flight range to 1,050 kilometers without refueling. Cargo cabins of the "eights" can also be equipped with medical modules for sanitary flights. In addition, the helicopters received improved lighting equipment, which increases flight safety in difficult conditions.
