Turkey Will Create a Military Base in Libya
OREANDA-NEWS. Representatives of Turkey, Qatar and the Government of National Accord (GNA) of Libya signed an agreement on the creation of a Turkish naval base in the city of Misrata located in the northwestern part of Libya. On August 17, in Tripoli, the Minister of National Defense of Turkey Hulusi Akar and the Minister of State for Defense of Qatar Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah met with the head of the GNA Fayez al-Sarraj.
The television channel Al Arabiya informs that, according to the document, a trilateral military coordination center will be also established in Misrata. “In addition, the parties agreed to send Qatari military advisers to Libya to train the Libyan military, as well as to provide Libya with places in Turkish and Qatari military schools,” journalists add. The agreement was adopted to “increase the combat capability of military units subordinate to the GNA.”
