Turkey and USA Created Working Group on S-400
OREANDA-NEWS. Turkey and the United States have agreed to create a joint working group in connection with the purchase by Ankara of the Russian air defense systems S-400 Triumph. This was reported by the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Mevlut Cavusoglu. “We have already started technical negotiations,” the politician said.
Deliveries of the Russian systems, which caused the crisis in Turkish–American relations, began in the summer of 2019. Washington demanded to abandon the deal and buy American systems Patriot, threatening to delay or even cancel the sale of fighter jets F-35 to Turkey, as well as to impose sanctions in accordance with the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act.
Ankara refused to make concessions and continued negotiations on an additional batch of S-400. As a result, the United States imposed sanctions against Turkish officials and institutions responsible for acquiring the systems Triumph.
