OREANDA-NEWS. The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, proposed changing the form of government in the country. He said this during an address to the people at a joint meeting of parliament, TASS reports.
According to him, well-considered steps are needed to reorganize the political model of the state's development.
“We are talking first of all about the final transition from a super-presidential form of government to a presidential republic with a strong parliament,” the Kazakh leader emphasized.
The politician noted that the new system will ensure an optimal balance of government institutions and contribute to the sustainable development of Kazakhstan.
In addition, Tokayev called at the legislative level to prohibit the president from being a member of any party during the exercise of his powers. He also proposed establishing a Constitutional Court in the country and banning close relatives of the head of state from holding positions in government and in state-owned companies.
Earlier it was reported that Tokayev banned the export of foreign currency worth more than $10,000 from the republic.
