OREANDA-NEWS The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine intends to withdraw a bill proposing to allow Ukrainian officers to kill soldiers for desertion, Oleksandr Bakumov, a deputy from Volodymyr Zelensky's Servant of the People party, said. According to him, cited by RIA Novosti, the bill caused a strong public outcry, but its criticism is heard mainly in an unprofessional environment.
Bakumov clarified that the norm was proposed not for targeted killing, but to ensure the security of the service and the ability to stop a criminal offense on the part of a serviceman. The conclusion that after the adoption of this norm, commanders will start killing their subordinates, he called "nonsense."
If it caused such an inadequate public outcry, it will be withdrawn. I am sure that all signatories will withdraw their signatures. However, I believe that first this norm needs to be analyzed in a professional environment, the deputy emphasized.
Earlier, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, a member of Volodymyr Zelensky’s “Servant of the People” party, Maryana Bezuglaya, submitted for consideration a bill proposing to allow Ukrainian officers to kill soldiers who arbitrarily left their positions or refused to obey orders. The current version of the law states that the commander has the right to order the use of weapons, "without causing the death of a soldier," while the bill proposes to delete the last part of the phrase from the document. Senator of the Federation Council of Russia from the Republic of Crimea Olga Kovitidi called the appearance of the bill evidence of the “brutal” essence of the Kyiv regime, the purpose of which is to punish people who understand the senselessness of the campaign.
