OREANDA-NEWS The expanded US sanctions that came into force on June 18, which prohibit American companies from providing engineering services in Russia, will lead to the termination of repair and maintenance of gas and steam turbines at Russian thermal power plants produced by American GE and other industrial equipment. Kommersant writes about this with reference to sources in the Russian fuel and energy complex (fuel and energy complex).
The company confirmed that from this moment it stops providing engineering services in Russia. They include repair and replacement of components, remote monitoring, consulting and inspections with the involvement of the manufacturer's specialists.
GE's Russian customers declined to comment. According to the publication, they have not yet received explanations from the manufacturer and cannot assess the situation.
One of the interlocutors believes that GE will close access to drawings and databases, without which it will be impossible to carry out inspections and repairs in Russia. Another believes that we are talking about stopping the supply of spare parts, which have no analogues in Russia.
The latter option was used by the German Siemens, another turbine manufacturer. After the sanctions come into force, Russian enterprises have to import the necessary parts through friendly countries. At the same time, a source in the industry clarifies that Russian companies have enough competencies to service turbines, if necessary, there are specialists in friendly countries. The only insurmountable obstacle remains sets of hot parts.
